This beautiful morning the Old Codgers assembled at the Hubbard Free Library to clean up the outside.
This was probably my favorite meeting to date. We had another great, enthusiastic crew. Weeds were pulled and weed whacked, hedges and trees trimmed, relocated the book depository box, granite bench power washed, steps cleaned and even got the interior clock working.
This group of dedicated volunteers reinforces for me that given the opportunity, we all can really make a difference in our community. I know there are many others in the community who are capable of joining this fine group.
Next Wednesday we will be at the Hallowell Cemetery. Come join us. 9:00AM.
A smaller, but no less dedicated, group of volunteers this morning. Spent time at the southern city entrance and removed more invasives. Exposed two hydrangeas and one rhododendron.
Another very successful Wednesday morning meeting of the Hallowell Old Codgers.
Today we combined forces with members of HCC and other dedicated citizens to work on City Hall. We also had the help of our own Officer Johnny. Flower beds were cleaned out, very large invasive plants were removed, the “fountain” was power washed and granite steps brought back to life. Hedges trimmed. The large pine was trimmed and the defunct, holiday lights were removed.
Plan will be to plant native plants requiring low maintenance. Hopefully the fountain can be rotated so you will be able to read the donation information.
I continue to be amazed by what can be accomplished by a dedicated group in a short period of time.
The group also enjoyed ginger brownies made by my wife, Tamara.
Next Wednesday, we will be back at the northern entrance to continue our cleanup and beautification.

Hi,
2 things:
First, the library still needs some work along the road on the back. We made a good start but need to finish up by the roadside trees.
Second, the Wednesday AM format conflicts with the monthly Age Friendly Comm. meeting at 10:30 tomorrow, on second Wed of the month.
Not a big deal, just means I will need to leave the cemetery by 10:15 or so to make the other meeting.
